Adding harvests to logs

This guide shows you how to log a harvest in Inshore, alongside your catches or on its own.

Steps

1. Open a log, or start a new one at your spot. Harvests live on the same log your catches do.
2. Tap Add Harvest. It sits next to Add Catch as an equal pair, so a mixed session goes on one log.
3. Pick a species. Nine to choose from: Shrimp, Blue Crab, Stone Crab, Spiny Lobster, Oyster, Clam, Bay Scallop, Crawfish, and Other.
4. Enter the amount and check the unit. Inshore fills the unit in for you (see below). The full list is always there if you want a different one.
5. Pick the form, if the species has one. Shrimp are Whole or Headed, Bay Scallops are Whole or Meat, and Blue Crab is Hard, Peeler, or Soft. Every other species skips this step. Ten quarts headed and ten quarts whole are not the same amount of shrimp, so the form is what keeps two trips comparable.
6. Add gear and effort, if you want them. Tag up to three types of gear. The effort field renames itself to match what you picked: casts for a cast net, traps for traps, sets of poles for bait poles. Gear that sits in the water adds a Soak (min) field.
7. Add size and notes, if you want them. Size class is there for Shrimp and Stone Crab, behind an optional disclosure. Notes hold up to 500 characters.
8. Save.

Only species and amount are required. Everything below the amount is skippable.

What fills in automatically

Your unit is filled in for you. Shrimp in South Carolina come out in quarts, and blue crab in Louisiana in dozens. Inshore uses the state your spot sits in to pick the unit anglers there actually use, so the number you type is the number you would say out loud.

If Inshore has no default for that species where you are, it falls back to the last unit you picked for it. Failing that, you get the full list and no default. The picker never blocks you, and it never converts your number. What you type is what gets stored and what you read back later.

Tide, water and air temperature, wind, and barometric pressure are recorded automatically on the log itself, the same as they are for a catch. See Logging a spot for what gets captured.

Common questions

Can one log hold both catches and a harvest? Yes. Add Catch and Add Harvest sit side by side on the same log, so a morning of trout and a bucket of shrimp is one entry, not two. A log with only harvests on it is a complete log, not an empty one.

What if the unit is wrong for where I fish? Change it. The full unit list is always available, and Inshore remembers the last unit you picked for that species and offers it next time.

Do I have to fill in gear, effort, and soak time? No. Species and amount are the only required fields. Gear and effort are there for when you want volume per effort to be comparable across spots and seasons.
