Finding spots with filters

This guide shows you how to narrow your spots down to the ones that produced what you're after.

Steps

1. Open the Spots tab.
2. Tap the filter button at the right end of the search field. A badge on it counts how many filters you have running.
3. Pick what you're looking for from the groups below. The panel stays open while you work, and the results update as you go.
4. Read the count. "7 of 42 spots" stays in view the whole time, so you always know how far you have narrowed things down.
5. Tap Done to collapse the panel and keep the filter applied, or Clear all to drop every filter in one tap.

What you can filter by

Catches and Harvest. Pick either, or both. This is the kind of entry the spot produced.

Harvest Species and Fish Species. Species chips, scoped to the type you picked. Choose Harvest and the harvest species appear as chips. Choose Catches and you get a Fish species... chip that opens the full list to pick from. The scoping is deliberate: it keeps you from building a combination that could never match anything.

Conditions. Four ways to narrow by what the day was doing:

• Rating, as Any, 1-2 Slow, 3 Fair, or 4-5 Hot.
• Month, Jan through Dec, for the seasonal patterns you already half remember.
• Tide, as Rising, Falling, High, or Low.
• Water temp, a range slider from 40 to 95 degrees.

Picking more than one chip inside a group widens the search: redfish or trout. Adding a second group narrows it: redfish and a hot rating and a falling tide.

How the list and map stay in sync

One filter drives both. The list and the map always show the same spots, and the map refits itself to whatever survived the filter.

Searching a spot by name is separate from the filters, and it never moves the map, so you can look something up without losing where you were.

If nothing matches, you still get the count and a one-tap Clear all, so you are never stuck looking at an empty map with no way back.

Common questions

Why did my filter return nothing? Groups stack, so each one you add narrows the result further. Drop a condition or two, or tap Clear all and start over.

Does filtering change my spots? No. It changes what you're looking at, nothing else. Clearing the filter brings everything back.

Can I filter by water temperature if I never typed one in? Yes. Inshore uses the temperature you entered when there is one, and the nearest station's reading when there isn't.
